Game On: A Sports Day with our Sporting Champions

With the first days of spring well underway, it’s time to start thinking about ways to engage and support your employees, or get together with clients over the sunny months ahead - what better way to bring your teams and departments together than a fun, interactive Sports Day delivered by world class athletes.

To understand the powerful impact that working with an athlete mentor can have, you have to connect with them yourselves. Experience the world of sport with our elite athlete team: challenge yourself and colleagues against Olympic, Commonwealth, World and European champions, step outside your comfort zone physically and work as a team.

Our Sports Day Like No Other allows organisations to understand what makes teams tick and helps to drive a deeper sense of employee engagement. Working alongside world class athletes is an amazing opportunity to learn from those who have reached the top in their sport.

Sports Days are a brilliant way of getting people physically active and working together in a team in a fun, friendly environment… but with a bit of competitiveness involved as well!

Working with the staff from companies including Brooks Macdonald and Janus Henderson last year was great – it took them away from their desks and gave them the chance to spend time with colleagues in a completely different environment. Sports Days promote team building and also give the teams a chance to work with elite level athletes, and understand some of the principles of working within a High Performing Team.

In 2022, colleagues from Brooks Macdonald and Janus Henderson joined our elite athlete team at the Olympic Park in London and walked in the footsteps of champions.

Our inclusive activities encourage staff performance, focus on group dynamics, teamwork, confidence and health and wellbeing. Tailored specifically to meet our partners’ objectives, the sessions brought a sense of unity across both teams. By coming together as a team in a semi competitive environment they understand more about what makes their teammates tick, driving a deeper sense of employee engagement. For some people this might be the first time they’ve engaged in physical activity in a while, so we keep the activities simple, engaging and most importantly, fun!

We had a fantastic sports day with the athletes from Dame Kelly Holmes Trust. It brought together colleagues from across the Group, building connections, creating memories and generating a lot of laughs! These connections and memories will contribute to our culture going forward, and it was great to be able to fundraise for such a fantastic cause as one big team.

It was great to see how enthusiastic the attendees from the organisations were and how much they seemed to get out of it. My takeaway from the day was that it really encouraged the attendees to collaborate across departments. Lots of team members didn’t seem to know each other at the start of the day, but by the end of the day there was excellent group cohesion which bodes really well for collaborative working back in the workplace.

Our Sports Day Like No Other is a fantastic tool for employee engagement or entertaining clients. For a fun, physically active day with some friendly competition, led by our world class athletes, please don’t hesitate to contact Annie or Victoria at fundraising@damekellyholmestrust.org
