About us Our news Fourth Get on Track starts in Bridgend We're really pleased that we're back in Bridgend for a fourth Get on Track programme, run in partnership with Bridgend County Borough Council. Bridgend was the venue for our first Get on Track course in Wales back in 2016 and it's fantastic to see the partnership develop and grow over the years Get on Track is led by world class athletes and is aimed at young people who are facing disadvantage. The programme helps young people realise the attitudes and behaviours they need to make long term positive life choices. The first stage of the programme is called On Your Marks where the group work to improve communication, teamwork and resilience skills of the young people and help form a bond between the group and the athlete mentors. This programme is being led by Welsh rugby player Philippa Tuttiett and Commonwealth weight lifter Michaela Breeze Lead athlete Philippa had this to say about the first three days... "The first week went brilliantly! We have a great group of 17-24 year olds from mixed backgrounds, some are fresh out of education, some are young mums and we also have a university graduate. Everyone is working together in an honest, challenging and supportive environment. The group have bonded really well and they are already supporting and challenging each other. All of them have a variety of goals and ambitions but overall many of them just feel a lack of confidence and self belief is holding them back. With such open and honest young people myself and fellow mentor Michaela have started planning our course with really challenging personal growth and life skills embedded in. The young people are already showing so much willingness to learn and to push themselves that we are very confident we are going to be a part of some fantastic journeys that these young people are going to start making for themselves. Here's to a very exciting few weeks!" You can see the impact the Get on Track programme has had on the young people of Bridgend previously.
