The tenth Get on Track programme run in partnership with the YMCA in Hayes celebrated with their GO event this week at the Global Academy in the Old Vinyl Factory in Hayes.

The GO event is an opportunity for all the young people on the programme to talk about what they have learned and achieved during the programme and share in their success with friends and family. It's also a chance for them to receive their certificates from the programme as well as other qualifications they have gained over the last six weeks.

The GO event went really well, so proud of all the young people. They all delivered their speeches confidently and it was amazing to see them get their certificates having completed the course. Everyone left on a high and focussed to achieve their future goals. Claire Bennett - Athlete Mentor

Since our last update from the Hayes programme they have worked on a Town Task, had sessions around employability where they built CVs, practised interview skills and finally met up with prospective employers and organisations who had opportunities to offer in the local area. Following this every very single young person in the group signed up to either training, education or employment and many of the young people have already got jobs to go to after the programme.

The group haven't just focussed on employment though, they also undertook fencing and boxing sessions led by the athlete mentors Claire & Hannah and there was a big increase in motivation to do more exercise within the group since the start of the programme.

It's been great to hear some of the quotes from the young people:

Get on Track has helped me grow and become a better version of myself. The athlete mentors Claire and Hannah motivated me to achieve my goals. - Charlotte

Get on Track has helped me to wake up early, motivated me to work. It's given me confidence and skills to work as a team - Vic

Get on Track has helped me to build my skills like working as a team, listening and confidence, as well as motivating others. I now know I would like to be an engineer and I am working towards that. - KK

The GO event celebrates the end of the intensive period of the Get on Track programme but the story doesn't end here. Over the next year, there will be a series of Keep in Touch sessions where Claire & Hannah will meet up with the young people to offer continued support and encourage the network they have created during the programme.

As always, a huge thank you to George and the team at YMCA St. Paul's who are fantastic partners in this programme and we'd also like to say a very big thank you to GWR for their help in funding this programme.

Finally, we'll finish a few words from from some of the leaders on the programme:

The past six weeks has seen these amazing young people take on challenges that have been designed to push and stretch each one of them to build their confidence, self belief and be ready for their next journey. I am proud to say each one of them has stepped up and I have seen them grow. I have thoroughly enjoyed being their mentor and helping them through their journey. I wish you guys the best of luck moving forward and I know you will smash it! Well done - Hannah - Athlete Mentor

I am so proud of all the young people on this programme, the way they have made positive changes in their lives leaves me in no doubt that every one of them will be successful in whatever they choose to do after Get on Track. - George, YMCA Youth Worker
