Dame Kelly Holmes Trust have once again partnered with Sanctuary Supported Living to offer young residents the Get on Track for Wellbeing programme, with the aim of improving their wellbeing, confidence and life skills through sport and physical activity.

After a successful pilot programme back in 2019, we're pleased to be resuming the partnership and giving young residents living in Sanctuary Supported Living supported housing services, the opportunity to work with current and former professional athletes over a period of six months.

The athletes working with Sanctuary Supported Living’s residents this year include:

The young people taking part in the programme will also be supported by Sanctuary Supported Living and the Trust athletes to learn and develop the skills needed to enter further education, training or employment.

Young residents living at five Sanctuary Supported Living supported housing services for young people are set to take part in tailored training and support sessions:

The Brighton programme kicked off recently with boxer Hannah Beharry taking the group through their paces and sharing her story from living a life of crime to becoming British champion.


In addition, many young people living at other Sanctuary Supported Living services, including those for people with learning or physical disabilities, or mental health needs, have the opportunity to take part in a virtual programme designed to reach as many young people as possible. Live interactive Bite Size Briefing workshops and pre-recorded videos will support the young people across the country, with sessions focussing on topics including Resilience and Problem Solving, Goal Setting and Mental Health and Wellbeing.

Many of the young people we support benefited from working with professional athletes in 2019 – from getting fitter and more active, to being inspired to plan for their future, with one young man embarking on a career as a personal trainer.

We hope that the 2021 programme will be just as successful and reach more young people across our services - improving their mental, emotional and physical wellbeing – especially at a time when young people young people are feeling the impact of loneliness, disrupted education and disconnection from existing support networks in the wake of Covid-19.
