Dame Kelly Holmes Trust held its annual Team Day combined with its first ever conference, ‘Embedding a High Performance Mindset’ in London, welcoming delegates from all over the UK.

Over 170 guests from our extended Trust family and beyond joined us at the Mermaid Centre for a day full of inspiration, activities and sharing best practice.

Team Day is our annual event which brings together athletes, partners and supporters of the Trust to share best practice and reflect on the past 12 months. This year's event marked our biggest and most exciting Team Day to date; celebrating our successes whilst also focusing on the future and aiming higher than ever.

Embedding a High Performance Mindset is the Trust’s first ever conference, which is targeted at a corporate audience. Delegates learnt about the world class attitudes that go into a high performing mindset and how they can transfer this mindset to their workforce.

Our President and Founder Dame Kelly Holmes opened the conference with our former CEO Emma Atkins reflecting on our successes and achievements over the past year. Some of the key things the Trust achieved last year were:

  • More young people supported through our transformational programmes than ever before (3,198)
  • More areas of the UK delivered in than ever before (60 compared to 41 in 2015/16)
  • We targeted those who needed our help most, not those who were easiest to reach – last year we ran programmes for care leavers, homeless people, young offenders, women at risk of sexual exploitation and those living within isolated communities
  • We launched our More than Medals campaign, which demonstrated the value of world class athletes to society beyond sport
  • We ensured that 87p in every pound went into charitable activities
  • We have contributed over £23 million in social value to the UK economy since 2012

Despite being separate events, delegates from both Team Day and Embedding a High Performance Mindset merged at certain stages throughout the day to take part in activities and sessions centered on the theme of high performance. Character development specialists PDP split the day’s team building activities into five zoned workshops to reflect our 5 core attitudes: Confidence, Motivation, Resilience, Focus and Determination. Each practical workshop was led by world class Trust-trained athletes looking at the five key attitudes

The day also featured an exclusive Q&A session with Judy Murray OBE, Dame Kelly Holmes and former GB Olympic Swimmer and now our Head of Training and Learning Design, Adam Whitehead. The panel touched on how best to bring these attitudes to life and transfer this learning into your business.

The event was rounded off with the momentous final task which saw teams pitched against each other in a high energy balloon battle. Five different teams fought to the finish to win the coveted title of Trust Champion title.

After the high energy battle there was a reviewing of the whole day in a final plenary session, and an opportunity for delegates to reflect on how they would take the skills and techniques learned from the conference in order to implement a high performance mindset in their workplaces.

Thank you to our principal event sponsors HSBC and Deloitte and to our kit sponsors for supporting the event.

Thank you to all who joined us and made our team Day one to remember: until next year!
