Young people programmes Young people stories Alanta's Story Alanta attended the Get on Track for Employability programme delivered in partnership with Sanctuary Supported Living in Brighton in 2019. This is her story. Get on Track has certainly improved my life skills, I feel good, better than I did before, I have enjoyed being part of something. The course has really given me a boost to talk to people and say what it is I want to do. It’s really helped with my confidence. I think I am better at being part of a team. I have gained more confidence and it was good to meet other people from the Foyer and the local community I attended the taster day and remember telling Hannah (athlete mentor) that I might start something but don’t often continue with it. I missed the first session but after that I decided to start the programme because I figured it would be better than staying in bed all day. I wanted to meet new people and have a bit of a laugh on the way. As it turned out, I really enjoyed it. I wanted to get there in terms of employment and learn new skills and I think I’ve really done that. Sanctuary Supported Living’s Local Service Manager Steph worked with Alanta over the course of the programme: I saw a real improvement in Alanta, she’s a natural leader who gives and takes direction well and is confident in a team environment. Fontaine Wright, Athlete Mentor: Alanta was a great addition to the young people on this Get on Track programme. She always engaged with the activities, even if she was unsure or nervous about taking part, she encouraged others to take part and believe in themselves. She has shown how much potential she has by getting out of her comfort zone multiple times through the programme. Alanta was a real pleasure to work with. In the next few months, I would like to see myself working and living outside of the foyer. I’ve always had a thought in the back of my mind that I’d like to be a firefighter, but this course has given me the push to really have it as a goal and make it happen. If anyone was to ask me whether to do this programme or not, I would say to them just do it. You’re really going to learn a lot. We're really pleased to be working with Sanctuary Supported Living to deliver four Get on Track for Employability programmes in Banbury, Brighton, Hartlepool and Weston-super-Mare.
