Andy was brought up in Glasgow and moved with his mum to Blackburn after his parents separated when he was 10 to avoid the reality of a strong gang and drug culture in the local area. He never really tried at school and was a difficult student and quite disruptive, hence coming away with poor GCSE results.

Starting Judo at 16 changed Andy’s life forever; he found a real passion for hard work, and commitment to a cause, and a sense of satisfaction of having achieved something due to the efforts he had put in. Through this hard work and newfound enthusiasm to learn he has been rewarded with fantastic opportunities to meet new friends, get an education from a top University and travel the World representing his country doing what he loves.

Andy wants to share his enthusiasm for the positive influence sport can have on a person’s life, and how it develops character and is a great way to open doors to many avenues of pursuit.

Andy has been a member of the Team Bath High Performance group since the age of 18 during this time he was picked as reserve for the u23 European Championships in 2005. He has a great record at the British University Championships winning a total of seven Medals. He is a member of BJA Development squad competing Internationally at Senior level.

Andy was a medallist in the Under 23 Europeans and named reserve for Beijing Olympics. He studied for a Masters in Strength and Conditioning via distance learning at University of East London.
