AQA Unlocking Potential 2018 Celebration We're really pleased to be able to show you our 2018 AQA Unlocking Potential film that has been filmed over the last six months at school, events and projects up and down the country. AQA Unlocking Potential is in its seventh year now and is a partnership between Dame Kelly Holmes Trust and the exam board AQA . 70 young people from 24 schools all across the country have taken part in the 2017/18 academic year, all of them supported by our amazing athlete mentors. On the programme, young people get the chance to work with and learn from Dame Kelly Holmes Trust’s team of inspirational athlete mentors. AQA Unlocking Potential aims to raise young people’s aspirations and expectations on future life goals, whether from school to Further Education, Further Education to Higher Education, or into training and employment. Young people are nominated by their teachers who believe that they would benefit from mentoring support to develop life skills and increase their confidence, self-belief and motivation. In the video you will hear from many inspiring young people who have all benefitted from the support and advice of their athlete mentors. As part of the programme all students had to deliver a social action project to help people in their community. These included raising awareness of mental health issues, helping the homeless and collecting for food banks, fundraising events for various good causes and lots of sporting events to get more young people active and engaged in sport. In particular you'll hear from Sasha from Avonbourne School who organised collections for a local food bank and Minnie and Dylan from Redwood School who organised a series of inclusive sports days at their school to encourage students to become more active and aware of their well-being. Minnie & Dylan along with their athlete mentor and Sasha, who all appear in the video We would also like to thank players of People's Postcode Lottery who supported us to offer more spaces on the AQA Unlocking potential programme this year.
