Ben is the youngest of five and comes from a judo family, all of whom have done judo in their lives. His parents first took him to a judo class at 5 years of age and he fell in love with the sport straight away. Being a shy child, judo gave him confidence and self belief throughout his childhood and teenage years.

This love affair with judo spurred him on and he managed to work his way up the ranks and competed at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. Having changed nationality to compete for Ireland in 2017 he has since had his best ever performances, and has his eyes firmly set on the Tokyo Olympic Games due to be held in 2021.

Outside of judo Ben has studied horticulture with the view to run his parents garden centre at some point in the future.

Giving Back

Ben has coached for a number of years and for a number of different ages groups and levels. He regularly takes part in fund raisers and tries to give back as much as possible.
