Kate has been swimming internationally since her debut in 2006 at the World Championships in Durban, and combined studying for a degree in Coach Education and Sports Development with training at the University of Bath’s pool.

Kate came very close to medalling on her Paralympic Games debut in Beijing in 2008, making the final of the SB9 100m breaststroke and finishing fifth. She also swam in the SM9 200m individual medley, but missed out on a place in the final. Her other successes in the pool include winning Silver with the GB 4x100m (34 point) medley relay team at the 2006 IPC World Championships in South Africa, as well as a Silver in the SB9 100m breaststroke and a Bronze in the SM9 100m individual medley at the 2009 IPC Short Course World Championships in Brazil.

In 2010, Kate graduated from university and was voted University of Bath Sports Personality of the Year by members of the Students’ Union Sports Association.

Unfortunately, illness meant Kate missed out on qualifying for the London 2012 Paralympic Games. But she now finds herself working in the media as a sports reporter, commentator and pundit - proving that from failure and disappointment you can still find success in other opportunities. Kate also continues to inspire young people by sharing her experiences through the power of sport.

Kate is presently working towards becoming a secondary school P.E teacher so that she can use sport to help young people realise and achieve their true potential, in the same way that sport has helped her reach her goals in life.

Giving Back

Kate is currently working as an athlete mentor for the Sky Sports Living Sport programme as well as Dame Kelly Holmes Trust and was also a commentator for the BBC at the Paralympic swimming events at London 2012.
