Laurie MacDonald competed as a member of the British Sailing Team until her early twenties.  During this time, she represented Team GB in several World and European Championships, achieving top ten results at two World Championships and winning the Ladies British Championships in her class.

Laurie made the difficult decision to leave competition behind and pursue a career in sports coaching, and gained early theoretical background by completing a degree in Sports Engineering from Strathclyde University.  A decade on and Laurie’s passion for sport and coaching continues to grow.  Her skill set is in high demand and she has had the privilege of working with many of GB’s aspiring young athletes.

Giving Back

In a bid to complement her coaching skill set, Laurie is now actively pursuing training and experience as a mentor.  She joined the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust in 2017 after learning about the fantastic work the Trust does from a colleague.  Laurie has used the skills she has developed as an athlete and coach to give back to local community groups and sports clubs by organising and coordinating local events.  The events have included people from a range of backgrounds and were designed to provide participants with fun, skills and confidence.

Laurie hopes that the Trust will provide her with a platform to use her experience in sport to inspire and guide others to achieve personal success.
