Luiza-Mariya Rusinova was born in Sofia, Bulgaria and sport has been an unchangeable part of Luiza's life, as she came from a sports family.

Her rowing career started at 2005 when she was only 13 years old. Soon with persistence and hours of workouts every day, Luiza became an athlete in the Bulgarian Junior Rowing team at the age of 14. She was one of the youngest competitors in the World Rowing Junior Championship 2007 in Beijing, where she took 4th place in a pair, missing the medal by only 0.8 of a second.

In the next few years, Luiza achieved 4th, 5th and 6th places in the World Rowing Under 23 Championships. She describes 2012 as one of the toughest and in the same time the most successful years in her sports career because she had to move to row in single scull and achieved an impressive 6th place on European Championship for Seniors. That year, she was awarded a prize as the best female rower in Bulgaria. Luiza is more than 40 times National Champion of Bulgaria. She decided to retire from rowing in 2016.

The skills that she learnt as an athlete are going to help Luiza as she would like to move into coaching, where she thinks that will be able to express herself. She has an economics degree, strongly hoping that one day she will be able to handle the two careers paths, as she is very active and she finds doing only one thing boring! She has a positive attitude and loves exploring new worlds and destinations.

Giving Back

Luiza joined Dame Kelly Holmes Trust in 2017, as a part of Get on Track project. She believes that one of her missions in her life is to help others, that is why she is more than happy to be a part of Dame Kelly Holmes Trust.
