Former Dame Kelly Holmes Trust athlete mentor Lauren Blease has taken on the challenge of running a marathon, to raise funds for the Trust.

Lauren is an ex professional golfer who worked for the Trust back in 2016/17, delivering workshops for the Trust's Aspiring Minds workshop. After retiring as a pro golfer, Lauren now works at Foxhills coaching the junior programme as well as starting up a new women's programme aimed at getting more women into the game which is something Lauren is really excited about being part of.

Lauren said:

When I decided to stop competing professionally the Trust gave me a really safe space to speak about how I was feeling and meet with other athletes who were experiencing similar things to what I was.  It seemed only natural that at any opportunity I have, that I can give back as much as I can to the Trust. Running a marathon has always been on my bucket list and with my wedding coming up soon, this seemed like the perfect opportunity. I've done more running recently and last year I ran a half marathon so I'm really looking forward to the challenge.

Talking about her time at the Trust she said:

I remember once I went into a school to deliver one of the Trust’s programmes and after I spoke with some students about sport and all the opportunities that it can create.  One thing that will always stand out to me was when two girls faces lit up when I was talking about going to University in America and all that they could achieve by playing sport.  They had no idea about the opportunities that were out there and it was really special to help give them an idea of what is possible.

Lauren is taking part in the New Forest marathon on the 9th September and all the money raised by Lauren will go towards running our programmes and helping more young people facing disadvantage to lead positive lives. You can sponsor Lauren on her fundraising page here
