Everyone at Dame Kelly Holmes Trust would like to say a massive congratulations to the wonderful Janet Simms who ran the London Marathon on Sunday, raising over £2,200 for the Trust.

Janet is a regular runner with the Bromley Veterans Athletics Club who very generously decided to support the Trust as their charity of the year. The London marathon was Janet's first ever attempt at the 26.2 mile distance and what better place to start than with 40,000 other people on the iconic London course.

"Well thank goodness that’s over! Honestly it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. The wheels came off at a number of points but the support around the course was just fabulous and this is the main thing I’ll take away from the experience. Despite pretty solid training, on the day my legs seemed to forget all this, so my time was even slower than I was expecting (5hrs 55), but I finished and that’s the main thing!

"I am delighted that so many of my club mates, friends, family and work colleagues have so generously donated to Dame Kelly Holmes Trust through my Just Giving page and am thrilled that I have raised over £2000 with a few more bits still to come in. I’m very glad to have played a part to help with your youth programmes and thank you again for giving me this opportunity to run the London Marathon. Bromley Vets AC are planning another fundraiser in January so I hope we will to be able to send another contribution from the club."

We're all still in awe of janet's effort on Sunday and if you'd like to support the Trust as well, you can still donate to Janet's Just Giving page here or sign up to future running events with the Trust in 2022 here
