Keeping a team engaged and motivated in the current climate is more important than ever before. Whether you are office based, have employees spread across the country or have everyone working remotely, having a sense of purpose away from the day to day activity can be crucial for keeping morale high and offering a sense of community to your team.

As of December 1st, over 60 people have signed up to take part in the Starting Blocks Challenge, looking back on that person, place or moment that inspired them and then getting sponsored to run, walk, swim or ride the distance back to where their story started. One team who have embraced the challenge whole heartedly was the Marketing Team at our Double Gold partners Westfield Health – aka the Colouring in Crew! They did a whole week of activity-based challenges in their hybrid pentathlon, including walking, spinning, running and loads more. In just five days, they covered 340 miles, the distance from Westfield House to High Five HQ in Amsterdam to signify the group’s expansion into Europe, especially during a time when they couldn’t travel to meet colleagues there.

Vicky Siviter, who organised the team highlighted how everyone on the team really enjoyed taking part and how it was great team building for them, especially after they were all working from home and didn't see much of each other throughout the year. Other members of the team were similarly positive:

Doing the Starting Blocks Challenge got us together, out in the fresh air, away from our desks. It allowed us to collaborate without a formal agenda, strengthening our relationship as a team.

Aiyanna Lund, Bid Manager

Absolutely loved taking part in the Starting Blocks Challenge as a department — it definitely brought us closer together and on a personal level kept me motivated to keep going as the week went on and the soreness set in from the previous days! Really proud we exceeded our target and were able to #gobacktogiveback in aid of the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust.

Emma Bull, Communications Executive

Doing the Starting Blocks Challenge was a great way to bond as a team, catch up with colleagues in-person and have some fun. We had a big target to hit, but knowing that we were doing it as a team and we were all in it together really helped to keep me motivated throughout the week to keep going!

Catherine Oldfield, B2B Marketing Executive

We'd love to say a huge thank you to the Colouring in Crew and everyone else at Westfield Health for their support. Signing up to the Starting Blocks Challenge couldn’t be simpler. All you need to do is identify the person, place or moment that was your Starting Blocks and then head over to our dedicated challenge website to sign up and follow the steps there.
