Ruth was not a typical ‘sporty’ child at school.  Not attracted to mainstream sports, Ruth didn’t find her passion for Mountain Biking until she went to university.

Over the course of her 10 year career she has been Welsh National Champion twice, represented Great Britain at two Mountain Bike World Cup events and achieved a world ranking in the top 200.  Ruth’s story focusses around the challenge of balancing her training and competitions with a full-time job and the sacrifice that comes along with that, combined with the challenges of competing in a male dominated sport.

Giving Back

Ruth joined the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust in 2016.  Ruth is keen to give back after being an athlete for over ten years and wants to inspire and encourage youngsters to become more active and take control of their lives.  Ruth has worked in the sports industry for 9 years in a variety of roles.  Ruth has worked on programmes including the School Games, Playground to Podium and managed a sponsorship fund for young aspiring athletes.  Ruth now works as a Performance Lifestyle Manager at a sports college, supporting talented young sports people to balance their daily commitments and build important life skills. Ruth believes that sport can be a powerful tool to support people to turn their lives around.
