Sam has been sailing his whole life and has won numerous titles across several different boat classes. In 2007 he won his first major title, the 420 junior european championships. In doing so he became the first, and to date the only British sailor to win this title.

He was asked to train in the Olympic 470 class, where he achieved some success before postponing his Olympic ambitions to finish off his education. While taking a break from Olympic campaigning Sam moved into the fireball class where he quickly marched up the fleet taking several European titles and then winning two silver medals and two world titles over four years.

Sam returned to the Olympic campaigning but suffered a bad back injury which made his training and competing hugely difficult. Sam missed selection for Rio and has since retired from Olympic campaigning, he now runs his own athlete management company

In addition to his athlete management, Sam is a hugely successful performance sailing coach and management consultant. On the water he’s has coached teams to European titles, international medals and a huge number of other successes.

Off the water and into the board room, Sam has consulted for major organisations like the Ministry of Justice and Lloyds Banking Group amongst others.

Giving Back

Sam joined the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust six years ago and has both worked on and given back across almost every program the Trust does. Sam has been involved in several different Get On Track programs across London and the South East, he has supported young people in school through AQA Unlocking Potential and On Track To Achieve. He has given back on the Sport For School Program, been involved with NCS and Aspiring Minds.

The trust has helped support and develop Sam to extend this work with young people into primary schools with Sport for Schools, give back through Sport England’s Sporting Champions program. He also works with several different National sailing squads at both junior and youth level, mentors young athletes and represents several other charities supporting young people.

Sam is currently working on four different Get on Track programmes in coastal communities across Kent. The new Sport England funded program aims to increase activity levels and motivation in young people in coastal areas.
