Dale's story

I’d been a single parent for four years so a lot of that time was spent at home with my autistic son, Rhys.

I was at the job centre one day and Grant approached me and told me a bit about himself, about how he was an ex-athlete and he was now running a course for young adults to help them get what they want out of life.

From day one on the course I felt I was really good friends with Grant, he really helped me and gave me praise for what I was doing at home with my son. That really helped me and pushed me forward a lot.

After Get on Track finished, there was a time when I was deciding what to do, but during this time I often dressed up as Spiderman for Rhys and then one day I decided to get in touch with the local hospital. I collected 400 Easter Eggs and lots of books and then dressed as Spiderman I went into the children’s wards to give them away. The response I got from the kids was pretty cool and that gave me the idea to set up my business.

Ten Year Anniversary Update

Going into the hospital as Spiderman gave me the idea to set up my business.

Ever since then my life has gone crazy! I have a successful business now running children’s parties and I also make personal appearances at cinemas, charity events and bowling parties.

I volunteer for the NHS and visit the children at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham every Thursday and I also volunteer as a family mentor now for a company called Small Steps, Big Changes helping run sessions for children and parents. Through this I’ve been nominated for awards and got to meet amazing people like Paralympian Stephanie Millward.

If I hadn’t met Grant that day in the job centre, I wouldn’t be doing what I am today, I wouldn’t have had the confidence to start my business.  The Get on Track course really helped me achieve what I wanted out of life.
