What do you do right now
Founder and Director at Sport and Beyond Ltd.

Relevant experience for the Trustee role
Much of my day job involves coaching senior leaders across sectors, as well as providing strategic interventions at Board and Senior Leadership level. I have a passionate belief in the power of sport. This has been driven through my own experiences of playing and coaching, and through my professional life which has led me to work alongside Olympic athletes, coaches, and those who operate at the grassroots of sport. My first career as a corporate lawyer and my current role as Chair of the O Shaped Lawyer mean I bring a distinct perspective to my role as Trustee.

Why you love working with the Trust
I love working with the Trust as it is run by a group of people who work hard, with humility and determination, in pursuit of the organisation’s Purpose: to equip young people with the positive behaviours and mindset they need to tackle the disadvantage they face due to inequality in their everyday lives.

What’s your sport
I played both tennis and hockey at representative level as a youngster, and still wield my tennis racket in a determined (if not always successful) way.

Relevant experience for the Trustee role
Former professional basketball player who represented Great Britain and England at Olympics, Commonwealth and European Championship level.

Why you love working with the Trust
I closely identify with the young people that the Trust seeks to help and the athletes who provide the mentoring to those young people. I am inspired by the positive impact that the work of the Trust and its Athlete Mentors has on each of the young people engaged on its programmes.

Rebecca Cogswell

What do you do right now
I have worked for the National Trust in Marketing Leadership roles for over 8 years, with previous experience in retail, financial services and public sector.

Relevant experience for the Committee Member role
Most recently I am responsible for driving income for the Trust through membership recruitment, fundraising and commercial businesses. This experience gives a great platform to provide strategic support to the Trust with their work in driving income from multiple sources and in developing new income streams.

Why you love working with the Trust
Working with the Trust allows me to give time to youth development, and as a parent of an autistic son, I’m particularly passionate about those young people who might struggle with mainstream education. It’s also an opportunity to work with a really passionate group of people with a shared vision for the Trust.

What’s your sport
I enjoy an active life of outdoor swimming, running and cycling, but have a real passion for the more competitive sports of boxing and tae kwon do, and am training towards my black belt.

Vwaire Obukhowo

What do you do right now
Vwairé is a competitive rower and Trust athlete mentor.

Attaining early successes on the indoor rowing machine led to an invite onto the Performance Development Academy (formerly known as World Class Start). This took her to represent GB for the first time in 2021 at the U23 World Championships. Since then, she’s enjoyed the thrill of racing and rigorous training that the rowing lifestyle provides. Aspiring to compete at the LA 2028 Olympic Games keeps her dedicated and driven to continue excelling.

Relevant experience for the Committee Member role
Vwairé is an Athlete Mentor for Dame Kelly Holmes Trust, she’s seen the impact of being present for young people who need a little extra push. Growing up, Vwairé always felt a little bit lost and struggled to find her purpose, finding it scary and like she was the only one experiencing those feelings. She now uses that experience to empathise with the young people she works with and uses her knowledge as an athlete to help them learn new life skills too.

Both of Vwairé’s parents were raised in Nigeria. She takes huge pride in her Nigerian roots, and the culture is heavily instilled in her lifestyle.

Why you love working with the Trust
Delivering the AQA Unlocking Potential programme has been very rewarding. I love seeing how the young people come out of their shell and gradually gain confidence in themselves. Their innovation and creativity is what the world needs, so seeing that they are more willing to share as the sessions go on is truly inspiring.
